Life is gourd at Halloween pumpkin-carving workshop

Bond Head-Bradford Garden Club gets festive with prizes for best jack-o-lantern

What does the Bond Head-Bradford Garden Club do when fall sets in and the final flower show has wrapped up?

In October, they hold a Halloween pumpkin-carving and decorating workshop with creative fun for all, and prizes for the best jack-o-lanterns.

Members of the garden club brought their ideas and pumpkin-carving tools to the meeting, held at the Danube Seniors Leisure Centre on Oct. 25. Pumpkins, tea lights and stencils were provided.

First prize went to Jack the Pumpkin King, from Nightmare Before Christmas, re-created by Sherry Morrow. Second prize went to Diane Reynolds’ tiny pumpkin held prisoner inside a larger jack-o-lantern.

Skulls, cats, even Spiderman and a Pumpkin decorated with musical notes, were among the creations.

After refreshments that included spooky cupcakes and treats topped with orange and black jellybeans, the members took their pumpkins home, just in time for Halloween.

Coming up: The next meeting of the Bond Head-Bradford Garden Club will be the Annual General Meeting, which includes an awards night and election, at the Danube Seniors Leisure Centre, 715 Simcoe Rd. on Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m.

In addition to the election and installation of officers and directors, there will be a workshop on Christmas Table Arrangements. All containers and materials will be provided.

On Dec. 6, the club will hold its Christmas Social and Potluck Dinner at 6 p.m. at the Danube Seniors Leisure Centre.

After these events, the club will take a break until the first meeting of 2019, which will be held March 28.
