Robert Sturgeon has been a farmer, a civic leader, and served as a West Gwillimbury TownshipCouncillor for 13 years.

At 95, he’s now a resident of The Elden of Bradford retirement residence, and the author of a series of books that capture the experiences of growing up and living in the township.

On May 28, Sturgeon will be holding a book launch and signing at The Elden for the newest book in his series, The Days of Summer.

The Days of Summer is a look at summer vacation, growing up in the township. School’s out, and while there was plenty to do on the farm, there were also rare chances to get away, and experience “unexpected adventures and fresh outlooks.”

Sturgeon uses his keen memory, story-telling ability and sharply nostalgic imagery to share stories and tales of days gone by, in his memoires.

A life-long resident of the area and keen local historian, his books are a record of the way life used to be, and the people and places that helped build Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Meet the author at The Elden from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 28, to hear more about the days of summer, purchase books, and enjoy free refreshments.

The Elden is located at 3131 Line 8, Bradford. RSVPs are welcomed, at [email protected] or 905-775-1700.
