Some local employers are struggling to fill positions, so Bradford West Gwillimbury employment agencies are hoping a Mega Job Fair on Thursday will draw a crowd of new candidates, said Valerie Ellis, employment services manager at bradford WORKS.

“We just want to encourage everybody — students, whoever — to come out,” she said. “They’re really finding it tough to hire.”

Just a couple years ago, it was difficult for some people to find jobs, but now it has become harder for employers to find suitable candidates, Ellis said.

And with a lack of funding for summer jobs programs for youth, she said she hopes the job fair will help spread the word that BWG employers are on the hunt to hire.

The Mega Job Fair, hosted by CONTACT Community Services and bradford WORKS, will run Thursday from 2-4 p.m. in the Zima Room of the BWG Public Library.

People are invited to bring their resumes and interview in a no-pressure environment with several different employers:

  • Maple Leaf Foods
  • Sobeys
  • Boston Pizza
  • Retire-At-Home
  • Spectra Aluminum
  • Smartway Trailer Rentals
  • TS Tech
  • CBI Home Health
  • Pay2Day

There will also be a larger job fair in September geared toward full-time manufacturing positions in BWG, which is expected to draw 400 people, said Ellis.

“We just want to get as many people in front of (local employers),” she said.
