Neon Rain’s country classics entertain at Bradford’s Music in the Park

There are two Music in the Park events in August: Big Shiny 90s night and The Argues indie country rock band

A warm summer evening, lawn chairs set out in a grassy park, and great music — Thursday’s Music in the Park event, sponsored by Vaughan Chrysler, featured the music of Rob Kirkham and Neon Rain, playing foot-stomping, sing-along country classics.

Families brought their own lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the free concert held from 7-9 p.m. on the grassy west lawn at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library.

They played games of giant checkers and inflatable bowling, enjoyed a barbecue dinner from the food truck, and snacks from Emily Dahlgren’s Baseball Concession Stand.

Lead singer Rob Kirkham, joined by Neon Rain band members Keith McKeown on drums, Kenny Ef and Jeff Black on vocals and bass, entertained with music that included John Denver’s Country Roads, and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama.

The band has toured across Canada, sharing the stage with musical acts like Jason McCoy and Lady Antebellum, and it has released two albums — the self-titled Rob Kirkham and Neon Rain, and Seven Year Itch. They have been nominated for a Country Music Association of Ontario award.

During the break, young singer-songwriter Madison Bebis took to the stage to entertain.

There are two more Music in the Park concerts scheduled this summer — Big Shiny 90s on Aug. 2, playing rock and alternative music, and The Argues indie country rock band on Aug. 16. All concerts take place on the west lawn of the library at 425 Holland St. W., from 7-9 p.m., weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be cancelled.
