Public Health Ontario has reported 1,418 new COVID cases today. The province has now confirmed 100,790 cases of COVID-19 since January.
The province's public health agency also reported eight deaths today and 1,415 resolved cases. The deaths reported in today's update include one person between the age of 60 and 79 years old, and seven people over the age of 80 years old. Four people whose deaths were reported today were residents of long-term care homes.
A death previously reported as an individual between the ages of 40 and 59 years old has been removed from the province's totals.
Since yesterday, 44 people have been hospitalized with the coronavirus and 12 COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units.
There are 96 active COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care homes and 64 at retirement homes in Ontario.
According to a breakdown of today's cases, 77 are from Ottawa, 400 are from Peel, 168 are from York Region and 393 are from Toronto.
Peel Public Health has the highest incidence rate in Ontario at 1,292 cases per 100,000 people.
The average incidence rate in Ontario is 678.1 cases per 100,000 people.
Public health labs have processed 48,173 COVID tests since yesterday's report – the highest since Oct. 8 – which produced a per cent positivity rate of 3.6 per cent.
There has been little change in the number of active, lab-confirmed cases compared to yesterday, and hospitalizations are down slightly, but the number of COVID patients on ventilators has increased.
There are 12,623 active cases in Ontario (down five from yesterday), and of those 518 people are hospitalized (down eight from yesterday). There are 142 COVID patients in intensive care units (reduced from 146 yesterday) and there are 92 COVID patients on ventilators (up by four from yesterday).
Public Health Ontairo has confirmed 100,790 cases of COVID-19 to date and reported 84,716 recoveries and 3,451 deaths.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,799 cases of COVID-19, with 1,711 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,523 cases listed as recovered in the region. Seven people are currently hospitalized, and of those six are Simcoe County residents. The health unit has recorded 52 deaths.
The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 315 cases per 100,000 people.
