Ontario reports 502 new COVID cases Saturday

Today's update also includes 830 recoveries and 15 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 502 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 12).

Today's update also includes 830 new recoveries and 15 deaths. 

The June 12 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 5,841 active cases, down from 6,184 yesterday.
  • 447 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 489 yesterday.
  • There are 422 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 440 yesterday) and 277 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 292  reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 24,099 tests were processed yesterday.
  • Another 10,338 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 15.5 million tests have been completed.

Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)

  • 138,697 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7). 
  • 1,134 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
  • 4,124 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil. 
  • Another 26,864 cases have screened positive with a mutation detected, but the lineage for the variant strain not yet detected.
  • According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.

Vaccines

  • There were 195,032 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, down from 199,951 on June 11.
  • 11,022,452 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total,1,667,761 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 539,153 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 524,362 recoveries and 8,950 deaths, 3,962 of those in long-term care homes.
