Operation Impact, a national public awareness campaign to make Canada's roads the safest in the world, is taking place this Thanksgiving weekend from Oct. 5 - 8, 2018.

South Simcoe Police Service officers will be participating with our policing partners to remind motorists everyone can help save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.

Educating the public in safe driving practices is a priority. The focus will be on the 'Big Four' behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk: impaired driving, lack of seat belt use, aggressive driving, and distracted driving.

This year's theme is "Drive to Save Lives“ and all motorists are urged to join the campaign. Traffic collisions are often tragic and almost always preventable.

"Road safety is a shared responsibility. Your choices behind the wheel can make the difference. Let's work together to make this a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend," said Deputy Chief Robin McElary-Downer.

It's no coincidence that the timing of this campaign to achieve safer streets and highways takes place during this long weekend. More people are travelling and there's the potential for more collisions.

Drive safely! It will be one more thing families and friends can be thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend.

Operation Impact is organized by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), under the leadership of the CACP Traffic Safety Committee, in support of Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2025.
