TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH – On Sat., Feb. 15, 2020, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) partnered with members of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club (OFSC) to conduct an enforcement and education initiative.

The joint venture aimed to raise awareness regarding snowmobile safety on OFSC trails in both Dufferin and Nottawasaga Detachment areas.

While maintaining visibility on the trails, members welcomed the opportunity to speak with numerous snowmobilers, providing public safety education and encouraging safe operation throughout the snowmobiling season. As a result of their efforts, numerous charges were laid under the Ontario Motorized Snow Vehicle Act.

The OPP encourages snowmobilers to adhere to OFSC trails, which are an excellent trail system that offers the safest areas to ride on. The OFSC provides a snowmobile trail network that covers more than 30,000 kilometres throughout Ontario's snow-belt. "Snowmobiling is an exciting and fun sport. Riders need to remember to stay on marked trails and obey the posted speed limits so everyone can enjoy themselves and make it home safely. Alcohol and snow machines never mix." - Sgt. Eric Steele, Traffic Sergeant, Nottawasaga OPP Detachment.
