THE COUNTY OF SIMCOE
May 24 to 30, 2020 marks National Paramedic Services Week, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, the county has adapted to virtually recognize the dedication of our frontline paramedic services personnel, and the role they continue to play in keeping our communities safe. This fits with the national theme “Pandemic: Paramedics on the Front Line."
“During the COVID-19 global pandemic, we have watched as our Paramedics have adapted their procedures and protocols to play an integral front-line role in response to this emergency”, said Warden George Cornell. “On behalf of County Council, our residents and visitors to Simcoe County, we commend our Paramedics and our administrative support staff for the work they do, to protect the health and well-being of our communities.”
Virtual celebrations will include videos and stories showcasing how Paramedics have changed their practices to respond to new protocols and requests, the types of equipment and vehicles used on a daily basis to provide care and tips on how the public can help protect themselves and our first responders.
County of Simcoe Paramedic Services would also like to remind residents experiencing acute medical issues and require an emergency medical response, please don’t be afraid to call 9-1-1 during the pandemic. Through discussions with patients and their families, we have learned that some residents are holding off on calls due to concerns around physical distancing and being transferred to a hospital during the pandemic.
Waiting only increases the risk for the patient and enhances the level of care needed from paramedics and the health care system. Our Paramedics are taking every precaution, including daily shift screening, enhanced protective equipment and extensive sanitization to make our response as safe as possible for the patients we help and aid.
During the pandemic, the County of Simcoe has been sharing acts of kindness, support and gratitude from our caregivers and residents across the County.
