INNISFIL - A 20-year-old Innisfil man is facing several weapons-related charges after police were called to a report of a fight involving an armed man in Innisfil.

On Monday, Aug. 6, 2018 around 4:30 p.m., officers arrived on scene in the area of Park Rd. and Sideroad 25 where there was a large crowd. A man was holding another man down on the ground. The man on the ground was arrested without incident. Police learned that the occurrence began earlier in the day when three men forced their way into a home and stole some items. The victims of that robbery then went to confront the alleged perpetrators. When a verbal altercation turned physical, the accused threatened the victims twice with two different weapons.

At this time, a random, unrelated passerby in a vehicle stopped to intervene in the altercation. The man approached the group and produced what appeared to be a weapon. He then tossed his weapon into the nearby woods. It was later found by police and turned out to be an air pistol.

The accused was taken to North Division and then transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and held for a bail hearing. He is charged with uttering threats, assault with a weapon, possession of weapon's dangerous and point firearm.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call South Simcoe Police Service at 705-436-2141, 905-775-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
