TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS - Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to over 15 calls for service specifically related to traffic; thankfully no serious injuries.

On Monday, Jan. 17, 2022 the weather and road conditions were far from ideal. Nottawasaga OPP were kept busy dealing with collisions, traffic hazards and traffic complaints along with other calls for service.

A temporary road closure on Highway 89 was necessary to give snow plow operators an opportunity to do their work.

Please be mindful of snow plows, tow trucks and all emergency vehicles that are out on the roads. Keep a safe distance and move over if emergency vehicles have lights activated.

Nottawasaga OPP is reminding the public that if weather and road conditions are unsafe, avoid unnecessary travel. If travel cannot be avoided, leave early, travel main roads and keep a safe distance. Keep an ice-scraper and extra washer fluid in your vehicle.

Prior to leaving, always clear ice and snow from your windows, lights, mirrors and roof to avoid any blind spots when driving.

Putting together a winter survival kit to keep it in your vehicle is also a good idea and can include:

  • charged phone
  • water and non-perishable food
  • flashlight
  • blanket and warm clothes
  • jumper cables
  • shovel
  • traction mats or sand
  • candles and a lighter or matches
