It’s been an exciting summer of park opening celebrations in East Gwillimbury, and today’s opening in Queensville marks the ninth opening of the year.

Located next to the Queensville Fire Station 2-8, this park features three lit tennis courts, an updated pavilion for programs and camps, and the start of a new trail walking loop.

The redevelopment of phase one of Queensville Park began in 2017 with the installation of a fire safety-themed playground structure. Construction of the tennis courts, program space, and walking trail began in October 2019 and was briefly halted due to the winter season and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Phase two park construction is scheduled to begin in 2027 and will include additional sport courts, the completion of the walking loop and potential outdoor fitness areas.

“I’d like to thank the residents of Queensville and local tennis club members for sharing their feedback and ideas which led to the development and design of this community space,” said Mayor Virginia Hackson. “This park was completed in 2020, and I’m so happy that we can safely gather as a community to celebrate yet another amazing outdoor space for all to enjoy.”

The design of the park also features salvaged heritage brick from the John Wright House, which was used to construct a seat wall and pedestrian scale entry columns at the main walkway entrance to the park.

The Queensville park redevelopment cost $1.1 million to complete, which was fully funded through development charges.

The development charges the town collects play a vital role in our growing community and the construction of amenities we use each day.

Residents are invited to join the town for its next park opening celebration at Cupples Farm Park on Aug. 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event features a movie night under the stars, refreshments and snacks, and activities.
