The Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie campaign kicks off next week, and all Bradford locations will be participating in support of Community & Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS).

This is the fifth year in a row that brothers and co-owners of the Bradford Tim Horton’s locations Perry and Jack Thornton, have chosen to support the CHATS program. On Thursday afternoon,  staff and members of both CHATS and Tim Horton’s got together at the 440 Holland St. West location to kick off the fundraiser.

“Today we are celebrating the launch of the fifth Smile Cookie Campaign in support of CHATS, we’re thrilled! With the five year campaign we have been able to purchase a wheelchair van that we are using within the Bradford area to get clients to their medical appointments,”said Rhonda Flanagan, Director of Development, Marketing and Communications for CHATS.

One dollar from each cookie sale goes toward the facility’s wheel-chair accessible van.

Co-owner, Jack said all four locations in Bradford raise about $10,000 a year with the campaign, which has helped them finance the $50,000 van.

“When we partnered with CHATS five years ago, we talked about making this tangible so our customers can see what they’re participating in,” he explained.

When they purchased the van, the Tim Horton’s logo was put on the side window so when it is driving through town, customers are able to see what their money has supported.

“Our customers can say ‘hey, that’s what we donated to,” he explained.

General manager of the location at 440 Holland St., Iman Abgul Wahb, says on average they pump out about 200 cookies per day during the campaign.

Last year, the campaign in Bradford raised almost $11,000, more than any other year before. They are hoping to beat that number next week.

CHATS is extremely appreciative of the support from Tim Horton’s and the Thornton brothers over the years.

“It’s constantly in motion,” said Flanagan about how much the van is used.

The smile cookie campaign runs across the country every September for one week. This year it will run from Sept. 16-22, supporting over 550 charities and community programs. In 2018, the campaign raised $7.8 million nationwide.
