The York Region Pride parade will go on for the first time in three years tomorrow, resulting in Main Street closures.

Newmarket said several parts of Main Street will be closed June 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for the parade. This includes from Water Street to Davis Drive, to Main Street South, to Superior Street to Ontario Street East to Simcoe Street East. Various sections of Ontario Street West and Queen Street will also be closed.

The town said Queen Street will only be closed when Pride Parade begins and will re-open once all the participants have passed the intersection. The parade itself will go from 3 to 5 p.m.

Pride festivities will also be happening at the Riverwalk Commons from noon to midnight. That means the Newmarket Main Street Farmers’ Market is moving for the day, going to the parking lot of the old police station at 240 Prospect St., off Water Street. The market will return to the Riverwalk Commons the following weekend.

The town said emergency access to the closed streets would be provided in the event of an emergency.
