Summer nights to remember with outdoor movies in Bradford

The latest outdoor movie was Disney’s Lady and the Tramp

Families gathered on the grassy lawn with their lawn chairs and blankets.

The kids played oversized games of bowling or checkers, tried out the gear provided by Genesis Gymnastics, purchased snacks and ice cream cones, and waited for the outdoor movie to begin.

It was the essence of a summer evening, and exactly the sort of atmosphere the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury hoped to create with the return of Outdoor Movies at the Library.

Presented by Summerlyn Dental, the movies screen on alternate Thursdays during the summer, shown on a large inflatable screen on the library’s west lawn.

Screenings start at dusk, but to fill the time before dark, there are special activities and treats available.

On July 12, the movie was Disney’s Lady and the Tramp.

Genesis Gymnastics set up balance beams and jumps for kids to try out, while Mister Treats Ice Cream and The Munchies snacks provided the treats.

Some came out to see a cartoon classic remembered from their childhood. For a whole new generation, it was an introduction to the Disney tale, and an evening of summer fun.

Coming up:

July 26 — Peter Rabbit, sponsored by No Frills. Activities begin at 8 p.m., with face painting and kids’ fitness. Treats provided by Sweet B’s Confectionery and The Munchies.

August 9 — Coco. Activities begin at 7 p.m. (note the early start), and include a visit from BWG Fire & Rescue. Vendors are Sweet B’s and The Munchies.

Aug. 23 — Wrinkle in Time, sponsored by Oxford Learning. Activities include music with Russ Clayton, Balloon Twists, and a visit by Mister Treats Ice Cream.

The library is located at 425 Holland St. W.

In case of inclement weather, the movies will be shown indoors at the Bradford & District Memorial Community Centre, 125 Simcoe Rd. See the Town of BWG Facebook page for more information.
