Are you doing some spring cleaning and have a wheelchair, walker, cane, or set of crutches but don’t know what to do with them?

Look no further than the online databased called The Assistive Device Exchange. This is a website that allows people sell or give away assistive devices that are no longer needed.

The ADE site is hosted by a local, non profit organization called Independent Living Services of Simcoe County & Area (ILS) that, for over 40 years, has assisted people with disabilities to lead dignified, productive and independent lives.

The Assistive Device Exchage website is just one more way of reaching out and supporting people with disabilities, older adults, and their family members. In 2017 alone, over 250 items were listed on the ADE website and were from Barrie, Midland, Orillia, Collingwood, and throughout Ontario.

The most popular items for sale and give-away last year were bathroom equipment, manual wheelchairs, rollators, power wheelchairs and scooters. Some of the more interesting items on the website in the past have included accessible vehicles, stair lifts, and portable ramps too!

Since 2012, the ADE website has helped people find, buy, sell or give away equipment which helps people de-clutter, save money, allows access for those who could not otherwise afford these needed devices, and prevents devices from going into landfill.

There is currently no charge for using this service. You can find, sell or give away equipment by visiting: www.assistivedeviceexchange.com.
