Trinity Anglican Church's Rev. Dana Dickson and parishioners Cynthia Riley and Sheryl MacPhail stopped by the Helping Hand Food Bank on Tuesday afternoon to drop off a cheque for $1,625, money that was fundraiser over the summer to help the community.

Every quarter, the church tries to focus its fundraising efforts on a particular need or organization.

"We asked the food bank, what does it cost to feed a family for a week," explained Rev. Dana. "And that is how we encouraged people to give and support."

Two hundred and fifty dollars of the funds were donated by one senior parishioner from their government cheque.

The rest of the money was raised through summer fundraising initiatives.

"COVID has put a crimp on our fundraising, we've had to be more creative," said Riley.

The church hosted a few bottle drives, a Pampered Chef party, and a cookbook exchange to raise funds for charity.

"I've done an online cooking class, something we would have never thought of before," added Rev. Dana.

Since the pandemic, the church has been hosting services and prayer meetings online and just recently opened its doors back to in-person worship.

"We had to do it otherwise our parishioners wouldn't be able to have the service," said Riley.

"The first Sunday I did a Facebook live, my husband held up my phone the entire time," laughed Rev. Dana, noting that parishioners from all over the world frequently join in the online services. "On a Wednesday morning, we will often have more people from outside of Bradford."

The food bank was grateful for the generous donation from the church, because "right now we're going through a lot of food," noted food bank president Carolyn Khan.

The Helping Hand Food Bank takes donations year-round, and just recently introduced an online payment method.
