The Georgian College Board of Governors is pleased to announce that President and CEO MaryLynn West-Moynes will continue to lead the organization for the next five years. West-Moynes was initially hired in August 2012. The board has unanimously taken the opportunity to renew her contract agreement for another five years until summer 2024.
Board Chair Don Gordon said board members are extremely pleased with West-Moynes’ leadership and long list of accomplishments.
“MaryLynn is an exceptional leader and deeply committed to the success of our students, staff and the communities we serve,” he noted. “She is the first to attribute Georgian’s record of success to outstanding students, faculty, support staff and administrators, as well as the support of incredible community partners and donors.”
Gordon added, “MaryLynn’s commitment will ensure long-term stability for the organization.”
Now in the seventh year of her presidency, West-Moynes takes pride in a long list of Georgian accomplishments since 2012. These include the addition of 30 market-driven diplomas and graduate certificates, investments in skilled trades and apprenticeship students, and a strengthened focused on curriculum development, quality teaching and changemaking.
West-Moynes championed an innovative and dynamic partnership with Lakehead University to increase degree capacity in central Ontario. She ensured Georgian’s commitment to deepen research and drive innovation with the opening of the new Advanced Technology Centre at the Barrie Campus.
The release in 2016 of a five-year strategic plan, Accelerating Success, featured commitments to internationalize and indigenize the college, and a comprehensive approach to enrich learning through research and scholarship.
”There is still so much to do and be part of,” said West-Moynes. “Last year, Georgian became the first and only changemaker college in Canada, designated by Ashoka U, for our leadership in social innovation in higher education. I couldn’t be more proud of our college, our faculty, staff and students. We are in the business of helping to transform lives through the power of education and I am deeply honoured to be asked by our Board of Governors to continue to serve as President of Georgian College.”
West-Moynes received her PhD from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Her research examined organizational culture and leadership skills. She holds an MA in adult education from Central Michigan University and a BASc from the University of Guelph.
