Firefighters, drag queens, bargain hunters, and hikers will all be hosting events in Bradford West Gwillimbury this weekend.

Whether you want firefighters to wash your car, to go for a hike with the mayor, or for a drag queen to read you a story, there are many different events happening this weekend in Bradford West Gwillimbury and area.

FRIDAY, JUNE 8

Smoochies Cakery re-opens

SATURDAY, JUNE 9

Bradford Farmers’ Market

8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Parking lot of the BWG Public Library every Saturday until Oct. 6.

Produce, plants, live music, arts and crafts.

Annual plant sale

9 a.m. start 

Takes place at the home of June Calder, 4198 County Rd. 88, Bond Head

Benefits Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign, raising funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation fighting AIDS/HIV in Africa. 

Trinity Anglican Church second-hand shop

Also open Tuesday afternoons from 12:30-3:30 p.m. and Thursdays 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Donations of new, almost new and clean items are greatly appreciated. Small household items also accepted.

Bradford Volunteer Firefighters Association charity car wash

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Canadian Tire parking lot. Fee is pay what you can.

Canadian Tire matches donations dollar-for-dollar up to $2,000. All money goes toward Bradford West Gwillimbury and York Region charities.

Get your car washed by BWG volunteer firefighters, who will spray water out of a huge nozzle from an aerial platform to soak each vehicle, before washing them by hand.

The hotdog truck in the Canadian Tire parking lot will also donate a portion of proceeds to the fundraiser.

Grand opening of Bradford Wellness Centre

Ribbon cutting at 10:15 a.m. New business, which is opening in the former Blockbuster location, offers massage therapy, naturopathy, life coaching, osteopathy, and counselling.

Grand opening of Blo & Glo Beauty Lounge

10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

541 Holland St W, Unit 3

Ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. The event will feature children’s entertainers, prize draws, a DJ, and pizza.

BWG Trails Day and 17th Annual Mayor’s Hike for Health

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

VETS Canada Tour of Duty walk

Wrapping up its inaugural season with a summer celebration of emerging artists. Includes a classical trio with Susan Barak of Heartstrings Studio, poetry readings by Deirdre Tomlinson and Patricia Miller, and music by singer-songwriter Dickson Reid.

SUNDAY, JUNE 10

8th annual Main Street Car Show

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Main Street South, Newmarket

Car show, music, prizes. Free admittance to the public. $10 entry fee for show cars.

Wishing Well Animal Sanctuary tours

12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

2710 Line 10, Bradford

$20 per person, or $60 for a family of four. Kids under three are free.

Sanctuary tours run on the second Sunday and last Saturday of each month from March through November. Meet and interact with the Wishing Well family of rescued former farm animals.

Tours run about two to 2 ½ hours long. Closed toe footwear is recommended. Parking is available immediately to the right of the sanctuary entrance. Please leave pets at home.

Vegetarian burgers will be served after the tour for $5 each.

A Day at the Auld Kirk heritage site

1-4 p.m.

Old-fashioned Sunday service, displays, entertainment and more. Bring a lawn chair. Fee is by donation.

Maxi Mind Learning open house 

1-3 p.m. 

Barrie Public Library, Painswick location, 48 Dean Ave., Barrie 

Learn about Maxi Mind Learning, a program that aims to treat ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities without medication. Attendees will learn about neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to change itself, and try some activities, such as controlling a computer with their minds. Arts and crafts will also be available. 

Cost is free, but participants must register online ahead of time.

St. Paul’s Coulson’s Hill Cemetery Service

In the cemetery, 2516 Line 11

2 p.m.

All welcome. In case of unsuitable weather, the service will be held in Trinity Church, 62 Church Street, Bradford. You may want to bring a lawn chair and sun hat.

As part of the Barrie Jazz and Blues Festival, Mark "Bird" Stafford and Connor Gains will be playing the music of the legendary blues musician and songwriter Jimmy Reed.

VOJ Voices of Joy Choir performs 20th anniversary concert

3 p.m.

Bethel Community Christian Reformed Church, 333 Davis Drive in Newmarket

Tickets are $10 in advance, from 905-727-3290 or 905-775-8821, or $15 at the door. Children under 12 admitted free. Light refreshments will be served following the concert.

The choir is for people of all abilities who love to sing.

Perogy and rib dinner

5-7 p.m.

St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, 56 Hearn St. in Bond Head

Homemade perogies, ribs, salad, cabbage and dessert.

$20 per person for adults, $7 for children ages 7 to 12, and free for kids 6 and under. All welcome. Tickets at the door.
