Where to join a charity walkathon this weekend

Three walkathons for local charities are taking place in the Bradford area this weekend.

The warmer weather is bringing out all the signs of spring: green grass, chirping birds — and charity runs and walkathons.

Here is a look at some of the events happening this weekend:

  • May 6: Hike for Hospice, for Mathews House Hospice in Alliston, takes place at the Adjala-Tosorontio administration centre. Check in begins at 10 a.m., and the hike starts at noon. Prizes, vendors, free BBQ for participants. For more information, call 705-434-8620 or visit mathewshousehospice.ca.

  • May 6: Hike for Hospice, a fundraiser for Doane House Hospice and the Margaret Bahen Hospice at Southlake Regional Health Centre, at Fairy Lake Park in Newmarket. Registration is at 9:30 a.m., and the hike begins at 11 a.m. For information or to register, contact 905-967-0259 or visit chpca.convio.net/DoaneHouseHospice.

  • May 6: Mandarin MS Walk at the Newmarket Community Centre. Support multiple sclerosis research and MS Society programs by fundraising and participating in the 5K walk. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments will be available for participants.
