NEWS RELEASE
YMCA OF SIMCOE/MUSKOKA
*************************
This June, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is participating in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge, a national physical activity challenge aimed at encouraging Canadians to get active in search of Canada’s most active community.
The Community Better Challenge allows anyone, including organizations, to track the number of minutes they spend being active within their communities in hopes of winning the title of “Canada’s most active” and a top prize of $100,000.
Throughout June, the Y is offering free day passes on Saturdays to encourage residents to be active and promote health and well-being in the community. At the Y, you will find a wide variety of activities for all ages, including open gym, family swim, lane swim, a fitness centre, and much more. There are different program options available at each YMCA, and residents can find their local YMCA’s schedule at www.ymcaofsimcoemuskoka.ca.
In June, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka’s health, fitness and aquatics centres in Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, and Wasaga Beach will track the average movement minutes of all members and visitors, and these numbers will be added together to determine the total of each community. Members and participants will be encouraged to record their own activity outside of YMCA facilities, too. If the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka wins the challenge, it will be able to help more members of the community overcome access barriers and provide financial assistance to those in need.
YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka vice-president of health, fitness and aquatics Karen Pulla said, “We are excited to provide residents free access to our health, fitness, and aquatics facilities every Saturday in June thanks to ParticipACTION’s generous support.”
Pulla added, “We know that exercise can help improve both our mental and physical health, so this is the perfect time to give ourselves a boost. The YMCA is a great place for people of all ages to have fun, improve their well-being, and make connections with friends and family. Thanks to these free passes, we can welcome new members of the community and hope they’ll join the challenge.”
Residents can get their free Saturday day pass by visiting their local YMCA health, fitness, and aquatics centre in Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, and Wasaga Beach, or by visiting www.YMCAOnlinePortal.ca and using the code ACTION2022.
Residents that try the Y this month and would like to purchase a membership can take advantage of $0 join fees until June 30. For more information, visit www.JoinTheY.ca.
