Baseball scores: Bradford fastball team sweeps up first gold medal of the season

All games took place betweek June 10 and June 16. 

Softball/Fastball

Under-10

Vince’s Market beat out EGMSA 10-4. The combination of Nathan at pitcher and Ryley at catcher shut down the opposing team in the first and third inning, not allowing any runs in either inning. At the plate, our call up Maya had a timely hit to break open the scoring in the second inning. In the field, Parker snatched a ball in between first and second that stopped some runners from going home.

Over the weekend, Josie of Vince’s Market made her pitching debut in the game vs. Bradford Academy of Music Saturday morning. She pitched two great innings, helping the team secure a 13-7 victory. Anthony made a great shoestring catch in the second inning, which quickly turned into a double play with the help of Nathan and Maya. The offence was led by Nick who had a couple of hits, while driving in three runners.

Vince’s Market went into Game 2 on Saturday versus Kumi Canada and dominated 15-0 by the pitching staff. Leah and Nathan pitched three scoreless innings. Leah pitched a 1-2-3 third inning. Practice makes perfect; in the second inning, Ryley grabbed a roller to short stop and quickly flipped the ball to third for an out. Parker used his stature and bat to get on base four times and come around to score twice.

Kumi Canada played two hard-fought games this week, losing 15-11 to H.L. Firefighters, and 15-0 to Vince’s Market. Despite the loses, Kumi Canada is making great progress on defence, highlighted by the strong play of Evan and Nathan in the middle-infield, and great fielding by Jordan.

Under-12

Roy Gordon Law beat Dissette Animal Hospital 11-7. For team Dissette Animal Hospital Gregory and Shelby were terrific on the pitching mound. For Shelby it was her first time pitching and she caught a pop fly!

James was an excellent catcher behind the plate. And great hitting by Aiden and Desmond.

Under-14

Bradford Peewee Select Fastball are the gold medal champions of the 2019 Brantford tournament. The boys went undefeated at 4-0 on the day to sweep to the first place prize. This is the first tournament gold for the team, and we hope this is the first of a few during what may be a very special summer.

Under-20

Bradford Navy Blue Team played back to back games June 11 and June 12.

On June 11, Navy Blue struggled against the Bradford Bantam Select team and suffered a crushing 8-21 defeat. They faired better the next night against WSSA Moller Insurance with a 9-0 lead going into the bottom of the third, but WSSA rallied and came back defeating Bradford 14-9. There was a solid effort from everyone, highlighted by Kaitlyn N.'s strong pitching, backed up by some impressive catches from Cameron G., Davis B. and Reece B. Things seem to be looking up for Bradford Navy Blue Team and they are looking forward to getting their first win in the coming week.

Hardball

Under-7

The Rookie Select Team went four for four over the weekend. Bradford hosted Vaughan Saturday and won 19-12 and 34-21. The team travelled to Bolton Sunday and won 20-5 and 26-6. The Rookies are now ranked No. 1 in their division. Amazing fielding was highlighted by a diving catch by Jacob C. At bat, Ty C. and Luca B. both hit their first home runs of the season.

Under-9

Ryan’s Landscaping beat out IMBA 1 and the mosquitos in a 10-7 game June 11. Tanner had an amazing single that resulted in two RBIs! Colby made a great defensive play at pitcher to get the run out at home!

Bellamy Sports had a great night at the plate, winning 16-6 over Lomonte & Collings. Great hitting from every player helped push Bellamy Sports to the win. Blake, Christian, Hudson, and Declan all went four for four! 

Carron Farms took down IMBA #4 19-2. Great defence from Logan M., Andrew R., Harrison L., and Hayden M. Great hitting from Cambryan, Chase, Andrew, Logan, Dylan, and Alexander with a monster double clearing the bases. Great game from the entire team!

During opening weekend action, Carron Farms edged Ryan’s Landscaping 14-12. The bats were hot for Ryan’s Landscaping. Anthony had a double and Ben D. had two home runs. Isaiah made two great outs at first by fielding the ball and running to the base for the out!

For Carron Farms, there was some outstanding hitting from Logan who scored a triple and a homerun, Andrew hit a homerun, Hayden with a homerun, Cambryan, and Jake. Solid defence also helped in the win from Harrison, Chase, Jake, Alexander, Logan and Dylan.

Carron Farms kept their weekend momentum alive and won 16-1 over Lomomte & Collings. Fantastic defence from Carron Farms players Harrison, Ryder, Logan, Hayden, Tyler and Andrew. Overall, team hitting was awesome with doubles from Alexander, Hayden, solid singles from Tyler, Cambryan, Dylan, Chase, Harrison, Andrew, Ryer, Logan, Jake, and Hayden.

Another great team effort from Bellamy Sports, which won 14-5 over A&W High Voltage in opening weekend action. Hudson and Max had big hits, while Declan and Saiyon made great defensive plays!

Under-11

Team Many Hands, Doing Good got their first win of the season and it was a big one at Nantyr Park in Innisfil. Their win was a result of a complete team effort. William T. anchored the squad with two innings of flawless pitching. Marshall R. had a solid performance catching behind the plate allowing very few passed balls. The bats were also cracking with Noah C. and Riley P. hitting strong singles while Adam R., Adam D. and Ali Z. remained patient with their swings, drawing multiple walks.

Under-15

Great pitching by Ryan H. and Nate P., which helped Bradford to a 17-2 win over Everett.
