The Georgian Grizzlies women’s indoor soccer team competed at the OCAA regionals on Thursday at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

The top two teams in each pool following play would move on to the provincial championship.

The Grizzlies opened with a solid 5-0 win over the Lakehead-Orillia Thunderwolves. Jessica Kraly (Barrie) led the way with two goals in the game while Melynda McKenzie (Walkerton), Christy Karvaratzis (Barrie) and Aimee Parker (Whitehorse) each had a goal.

Megan Goutos (Innisfil) had a shutout in the contest.

In their second match, the Grizzlies ran into a very tough St. Clair Saints team that defeated Georgian 4-0. The Saints would go on to win the pool with a 4-0 record.

Georgian rebounded in yet another tight contest and while they weren’t able to get a goal, Megan Goutos picked up her second shutout of the day as the Grizzlies finished in a 0-0 tie with the Sheridan Bruins.

This set up a final battle against the University of Toronto-Mississauga Eagles with Georgian’s provincial hopes on the line.

The Grizzlies put up a great effort but fell to the Eagles 1-0 which eliminated the chance to move onto the OCAA Championship as their season came to an end. Georgian finished regionals with a 1-2-1 record.
