Bradford Bulldogs atom and midget teams continue to battle in the OMHA playdowns

The Bradford Bulldogs Atom A and Midget A squads continue to battle in the OMHA Central quarter-finals.

On Feb. 23, the Midget A Bulldogs played Game 4 against the Ajax Knights, and hung on for a 4-3 win at the BWG Leisure Centre.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. Goal scorers were Ryan Fallis and Tyler Mumford with a pair apiece.

The first goal by Fallis came only five minutes into the game, on an assist from Anthony Roberts. The other three goals were all scored in the last minutes of the period – Fallis’ second goal with 2:18 remaining, from Carson Cameron and Joseph Magani. Mumford scored at 1:22 and again at 11 seconds from the end of the period, on assists from Ryan Jensen, Matthew Morse, and Brendan Firlotte.

The Bulldogs continued to press in the second, but Ajax finally got one past goalie Ryan Kiernan, to make it 4-1.

In a chippy third period, the Knights scored a second goal, with 3:26 remaining – and then pulled their goalie for the extra man advantage. With the extra attacker and just under a minute left, Ajax scored again, bringing it to within one.

Bradford missed an empty net goal – but hung on for the win. The series is now tied, at two games each.

A decisive Game 5 will be played in Ajax this Sunday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. – leaving the Bulldogs with the daunting task of defeating the Knights on their home ice.

The Atom A Bulldogs are also tied with the Barrie Colts in their quarter-final series, after a 1-0 win in Game 4 on Feb. 22. Game 5 takes place Feb. 24, at the Holly Recreation Centre in Barrie, at 2:30 p.m.
