Doan, G.Calvin

Saturday, August 3, 1929 - Monday, March 18th, 2019

Passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket on March 18th, 2019 in his 89th year. Loving husband of Marie (nee Rollings) for 68 years. Beloved father of Timothy (Faye), Teresa (pre-deceased 1963), Sandra (Joseph). Proud grandfather of Tobias, Wesley, and Estrella. Brother of Robert (Norma), Helen Gibson (Tim). Dear son of the late Aubrey and Evelyn (nee Lougheed). Uncle Cal will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Surrounded by family, Cal farmed his entire career on the family farm near Glenville and learned early on to be a hard worker. Always self sufficient, he inspired those around him with his “we can do anything” attitude and accomplished many large projects quickly with minimum fuss. Cal loved the land. He loved the clouds of butterflies massing in the fields late in August and September when they burst out of hedgerows. Cal had a way of making things fun. Skating on Peninsula Lake, he ran and flipped over on his back, skidded and quoted “c’mon in, Bambi, the water’s stiff!” The pond at home was our “cottage”, where we enjoyed late afternoon swims and hotdogs while he lathered off the day’s work. Marie and Cal travelled after Tim came home from Edmonton and took on the responsibility of the farm in 1980. Packing up their fifth wheel, home away from home, Cal and Marie visited the Arctic, and many other parts of North America. Cal enjoyed Euchre and Cribbage and the way a good game would bring people together. Special thanks to the exceptional staff at Southlake Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cal’s memory can be directed to Palliative Care at www.southlakefoundation.ca or through the link provided on this site. Cal will be forever missed and cherished. A Celebration of Life will be held in early summer.
