NEWS RELEASE

******************************
The South Simcoe Police Service conducted RIDE spot checks at several locations throughout the St. Patrick's Day weekend. Approximately 400 vehicles were checked, resulting in 12 requests for roadside breath samples. One motorist had his licence suspended for three days after registering in the "warn" range. Thank you to the drivers who made the right choice for road safety.

Enhanced RIDE for St. Patrick's Day coincided with the launch of National Impaired Driving Prevention Week, March 19-25, 2023. Impaired driving is a public safety priority for us year-round but this week is an opportunity to remind our residents about the tragic consequences of driving under the influence. Impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drugs, continues to kill or injure more Canadians than any other crime. It also remains the single most important factor contributing to serious road crashes.

We urge you to prevent all types of impaired driving, either due to drugs, alcohol, fatigue or distraction. There are many things beyond out control, but driving impaired isn't. If you see a suspected impaired driver, call 911.
