Barrie man caught towing a stolen trailer, police allege

Police report that the Barrie man was in possession of suspected cocaine as well

INNISFIL - A 35-year-old Barrie man was charged with a number of offences after South Simcoe Police Service officers put the brakes on a theft in progress.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020 around 8:30 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers received a report about an enclosed trailer containing equipment that was stolen overnight from Georgetown.

Shortly after being notified, police stopped a pickup truck that was towing the stolen trailer on Highway 27 north of Innisfil Beach Road. The driver was arrested and transported to North Division.

As a result of investigation, a 35-year-old Barrie man was charged with a number of offences including theft over $5000, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of drugs (suspected cocaine), drive while under suspension and insecure load.

He was released with a court date in March.

The stolen trailer and all the contents were recovered.
