Boy, 8, on bike critically injured after being struck by vehicle in Newmarket

The driver remained on the scene of the Thursday night collision

An eight-year-old boy is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the Copper Hill neighbourhood in Newmarket last night.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Poppy Lane and Sherman Brock Circle at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, according to York Regional Police.

The driver of the vehicle, a 2020 black Lincoln Navigator, remained at the scene, police said.

This is the second serious collision involving a child riding a bicycle in York Region in just over a week. A 10-year-old girl died Sept. 3 in hospital after being struck by a vehicle Sept. 1 in Vaughan.
