Bradford man threatens neighbours, barricades himself inside home

A 25-year-old Bradford man is facing numerous charges including assault with a weapon following a disturbance in Bradford.

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019 around 3:30 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to a home near Melbourne Drive and Miller Park Avenue for reports of a man confronting area residents while wielding a knife.

When officers arrived, the suspect retreated into his home. The home was contained and negotiations with the suspect began in an effort to have him surrender to police. He eventually was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries.

A 25-year-old Bradford man was charged with two counts of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing.

South Simcoe Police Service has six trained crisis negotiators who respond to critical incidents. Their mandate is to reach a favourable outcome safely and peacefully for everyone.
