The Bradford West Gwillimbury/Innisfil Police Services Board is pleased to announce that vice-chair Chris Gariepy has been named the new board chair. Gariepy was acclaimed during a virtual police board meeting on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021. Gariepy replaces outgoing chair Licinio Miguelo, a municipal appointee from Bradford who had held the position for the past two years.

Board member Doug Bernardi was acclaimed as the new vice-chair. Both Gariepy and Bernardi will serve a term effective Jan. 25, 2021 to the board's first regular meeting in 2022.

Gariepy joined the police services board in 2019 as a provincial appointee and brings over 40 years of extensive business/entrepreneurial experience and community engagement to the table. He is president of Chris Gariepy Construction Advisors and his accomplishments include past chair of the Rotary Club of Barrie, board chair at Georgian College and board chair at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH).

"Thank you for your confidence in me board," Gariepy said following the election. "We have a significant amount of work ahead of us, but it's good work."

The board also welcomed new municipal appointee Todd Canning, an Innisfil resident who is employed with the York District School Board as president of the Education Support Workers Union. Canning said he was honoured to take on the role.

"My goal is to give back to the community. It is an opportunity for me to serve the community and the police service, of course who I have tremendous respect for and a life-long respect," Canning said.
