NEWS RELEASE
SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE
*************************
On Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to a grocery store on Melbourne Drive in Bradford for a report of a theft.

When officers arrived, they learned that a man had left the store with over $100 worth of beer without making any attempt to pay. A passerby chased the suspect to the rear of a nearby coffee shop where once confronted, the suspect turned over a bag containing the beer bottles and left on a bicycle.

An officer who was checking the area spotted a man matching the suspect's description. The suspect took off on his bicycle and was eventually stopped.

The officer learned that the suspect was wanted for failing to appear in court and placed the man under arrest. In addition to being charged for failing to appear in court, the 50-year-old Bradford man was also charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

We strongly advise citizens not to get involved in situations like this. No amount of money or property is worth getting hurt or worse. Luckily in this case, the unknown citizen who gave chase and recovered the stolen goods was not injured.
