Citizen reports lead to impaired charges

Two people were charged after citizens called police to report suspected impaired drivers in separate incidents

A 71-year-old Bradford woman is charged after a citizen called police to report a suspected impaired driver in Bradford.

On Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, around 8 p.m., police responded to the area of Holland Street West and Melbourne Drive. After checking the area officers located the vehicle in question.

When police spoke to the female driver, they detected an odour of alcohol and other signs of impairment. The driver was placed under arrest for impaired driving and transported to South Division for breath testing.

As a result, the driver was also charged with Over 80. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded. She has a court date in October.

On Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 around 6:45 p.m., police were flagged down by a concerned citizen.

The citizen reported that there was a vehicle that was running, appeared empty and might have rolled out a driveway on a street in the Barrie Street and Holland Street East area.

When police approached the vehicle they could see a man in the front seat and detected an odour of alcohol. The man was placed under arrest for impaired driving and was transported to South Division for breath testing. The tests resulted in readings of more than twice the legal limit.

A 31-year-old Bradford man was charged with impaired driving and Over 80. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded. He was released with a future court date.

Thank you to the great citizens who brought these two incidents to our attention. Impaired driving is one of our top priorities due to the danger it poses to innocent citizens. By working together, we can make a difference in road safety.
