NEWS RELEASE
SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE
*************************
The deadline to remove ice fishing huts from Lake Simcoe is midnight tonight, March 15, 2019. Please leave the lake safe and clean for swimmers and boaters for the spring and summer seasons.

We'd also like to remind everyone about the changing ice conditions due to warmer temperatures. Please keep children and pets away from waterways as melting ice and snow have made these areas unsafe.

There is no such thing as completely safe when dealing with ice. It should always be assumed that unsafe conditions exist no matter where you travel on ice.

Here are some tips:

  • Check with local ice hut operators for the latest ice conditions
  • Always wear a flotation device when walking on lakes and rivers
  • Never go onto the ice alone. A buddy may be able to rescue you or go for help if need be
  • Ensure you have a cell phone with a fully-charged battery
