Driver accused of travelling more than 70 km/h over speed limit

A 44-year-old Mississauga man is charged with speeding and stunt driving following a vehicle stop in Bradford.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 around 2:00 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on King Street South in Cookstown. The officer followed the vehicle and eventually conducted a traffic stop once the vehicle slowed as it entered the Village of Newton Robinson in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

The officer detected an odour of alcohol and a roadside test was conducted. As a result, the driver's licence was suspended for three days. The vehicle had a recorded speed measurement of 152 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone and as a result the driver was also suspended for seven days for stunt driving. His vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Our targeted traffic enforcement is determined to keep our roads safe and free of speeding and impaired drivers. Impaired driving is a crime in progress. If you spot a suspected impaired driver, safely call 911.
