A 38-year-old Bradford man is charged with impaired driving following a vehicle stop in Bradford. On Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 2:15 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer on patrol observed a vehicle travelling on Simcoe Road with a burned out headlight and no light for the rear licence plate.

The officer conducted a vehicle stop and detected an odour of alcohol. An approved screening device test resulted in a fail and the driver was arrested and transported to South Division. Breath tests registered readings of nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol.

A 38-year-old Bradford man was charged with Over 80. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He was released with a future court date.

Throughout the weekend, officers conducted a number of traffic stops and checked 145 vehicles at a RIDE program on Saturday night. These pro-active initiatives resulted in the following:

  • three three-day licence suspensions
  • one seven-day licence suspension for a driver with a previous history of alcohol-related driving offences
  • one novice driver Blood Alcohol Concentration above zero
  • one 45-day impound for a driver with a number of previous suspensions dating back almost a decade

We would like to remind drivers that South Simcoe Police Service conducts RIDE programs year round and our officers are on patrol 24-7 watching for impaired drivers.

In addition to the legal consequences of driving impaired, there is the human toll in loss of life and injury. Make better choices and work with us to keep our roads safe. Call 9-1-1 if you see a suspected impaired driver.
