An Ottawa man is facing charges after a drone carrying drugs crashed near Beaver Creek Institution in Gravenhurst.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, residents near the correctional facility contacted police to report the drone had crashed in the area. Bracebridge OPP responded, found the drone and located a man who was trespassing while searching for the drone, according to a news release.

An investigation led police to seize the drone and “many items that are prohibited inside the correctional facility.”

Fabrice Ricourt-Casseus, 24, has been charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, and one count each of possession of contraband before a visitor control point at a penitentiary, possession for the purpose of distributing cannabis, trespass by night, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused is set to appear in Bracebridge court March 21.
