Human remains found at Essa Township residential fire scene

One adult transported to Toronto-area trauma centre remains in critical but stable condition

Human remains have been located, following a residential fire in Alliston, New Tecumseth.

The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Essa Township Fire Department and Simcoe County Paramedic Services responded on April 1, 2023 at approximately 6:20 a.m. to an address on the 3rd Line within the Township of Essa. The residence was engulfed in flames.

One adult was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre and remains in critical but stable condition.

The remains of another person have been located inside the residence. No cause of death has been determined. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for April 4, 2023.

The Nottawasaga OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), are continuing to investigate, in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshall, Ontario Forensic Pathology Services and Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.

When you contact Crime Stoppers you remain anonymous, you will never have to testify, and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
