Human remains found in greenspace near Barrie lakeshore

Barrie police official says remains could have been there 'for a few days'

Barrie police are assisting the coroner’s office after human remains were discovered near the Barrie lakeshore just after 9 a.m., Thursday.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that while the death doesn’t seem suspicious at the moment, the investigation is ongoing at the greenspace between 45 and 97 Bradford St.

“We got a call last night about something that seemed out of place. Due to the long grass and nature of the area, we were unable to find anything, but upon returning today, we located the remains,” Leon said.

The gender and age of the deceased is currently unknown.

Leon said the remains could have been there “for a few days.”
