Human remains found near lakeshore ID'd, cause of death withheld

'At this time, this is still a death investigation and there is nothing to suggest (anything suspicious) otherwise,' says Barrie police official

Police have identified the human remains found two weeks ago off Bradford Street near the Barrie lakeshore, but the cause of death is not being disclosed..

The remains were discovered Thursday, Aug. 4 in a greenspace between 45 and 97 Bradford St.

The investigation continues.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that the deceased was positively identified and is a 35-year-old man of no fixed address.

“Next-of-kin were notified late Friday," said Leon, who added information about the cause of death would need to come from the Office of the Chief Coroner.

“At this time, this is still a death investigation and there is nothing to suggest (anything suspicious) otherwise," Leon added.

Stephanie Rea, from the Office of the Chief Coroner, said they cannot provide information on cause or manner of death in any of their death investigations.

Barrie police had initially responded to the scene after receiving a call about "something that seemed out of place."

Due to the long grass and nature of the area, Leon said at the time that officers were unable to find anything, but returned the following morning and located the remains.
