Human remains found outside Barrie not yet identified: OPP

OPP waiting on results from post-mortem examination to pinpoint cause of death after remains found on Penetanguishene Road

The police presence at a rural property on Penetanguishene Road near the Barrie-Springwater border is gone today, but the investigation continues in an effort to determine the person's identity after human remains were found two days ago.

Provincial police are waiting on results from a post-mortem examination to pinpoint the cause of death.

There has been no indication about how long the remains had been there.

The property is in an area close to the intersection of Barrie’s Georgian Drive and Penetanguishene Road, but is within Springwater Township. Ontario Provincial Police are leading the investigation.

The OPP was contacted around 5 p.m., Wednesday, after the remains were discovered by a citizen.

At the scene on Friday, OPP Const. Katy Viccary said the on-site investigation was “wrapped up late yesterday."

Police say they do not believe there is a threat to public safety.

Anyone with information is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
