INNISFIL - South Simcoe Police Service officers have charged a 36-year-old Innisfil man with fraud over $5,000 after a complaint from Ontario Works.

On June 26, 2018, investigators received a report of fraudulent activity from Ontario Works involving a Social Assistance recipient. After a two-month investigation, police determined that a suspect had (allegedly) been receiving benefits he was not entitled to between June 2016 and October 2017.

The total amount defrauded from Social Assistance is over $10,000. The man was arrested on Aug. 26, 2018 when he attended at the South Division. He was eventually released from custody and will appear in court in October.

This type of fraud hurts everyone, especially people legitimately in need of Social Assistance. If you know someone scamming the system, please report it to police. We will investigate and put a stop to the fraud.
