Innisfil man gets licence suspended after open liquor charge

INNISFIL - A noon-hour traffic stop resulted in a warn range suspension for an Innisfil man and the seizure of a quantity of alcohol. On Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at 12:15 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer was conducting traffic enforcement on Big Bay Point Road near Lake Simcoe.

A vehicle stop was initiated and the officer detected an odour of alcohol. A caution was registered on a roadside screening device and a quantity of alcohol was seized from the vehicle.

A 64-year-old Innisfil man was handed a three-day licence suspension, ticketed for an expired licence and having open liquor in a vehicle.

Officers have conducted 62 traffic stops in the last 24 hours. One officer on roving speed enforcement in Bradford and Innisfil on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019 issued over 20 speeding tickets and a number of cautions.

Among those speeding tickets were seven drivers stopped on County Road 27 outside Cookstown Central Public School. They were charged with speeding in a Community Safety Zone including one motorist clocked at 81 km/h in the posted 40 km/h zone.
