Man robs two Newmarket convenience stores with knife, gun

Two Newmarket convenience stores were hit by a robber wielding a knife and a gun early this morning.

The first incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. at a convenience store in the area of Yonge Street and Kingston Road. Officers from York Regional Police learned a suspect has entered the store and pulled out a knife and a gun, demanding cash and cigarettes.

The suspect fled on foot before police arrived on the scene.

An hour later, at about 6:30 a.m., police were called to a second convenience store, this time in the area of Yonge Street and William Roe Boulevard, for another robbery. The suspect entered the store with a knife and a gun, demanding cash and cigarettes. He was unsuccessful and fled on foot without obtaining any money, police said.

No one was injured in either incident.

Police are now seeking a suspect in relation to these robberies. The suspect is described as a white male, aged 20 to 25 years. He is about 5’5” tall with a medium build. At the time, he was wearing black glasses, a black face covering, black toque, black sweater with a gold Raptors logo, a white shirt, blue jeans, and a black satchel.
