Numerous 911 calls result in impaired charge for driver

On Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018 shortly after 3 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service received numerous 911 calls in regard to a SUV on the 20th Side Road, Innisfil being operated in a dangerous manner. Several callers reported near miss head on collisions as they were forced to take evasive action while the SUV sped northbound, utilizing both lanes and shoulders.

Officers responded from all directions in an attempt to intervene. Police located the vehicle at the intersection of 20th Side Road and Innisfil Beach Road moments after it crashed. A 55-year-old Innisfil woman, who was uninjured, was arrested and kept in custody to await a bail hearing. She faces serious criminal charges including, impaired driving by drug, dangerous driving and breach of recognizance.

Thankfully, due to the alert driving of others – and a lot of luck – a tragedy was averted. The South Simcoe Police Service wishes to extend its sincerest gratitude to all those citizens who called 911. Clearly, your calls made a difference, and may have save a life!
