City police say two men charged in connection to a pellet-gun attack in Barrie, which left a male with serious eye injuries, have been linked to a similar incident in Innisfil.

No details have been released on the Innisfil incident.

Charges have been laid in the Nov. 20 pellet-gun attack on Cundles Road West in Barrie where a male was shot in the eye. Two men are facing several charges, including one who's alleged to have falsely reported an attack against himself the following day.

On Nov. 21, while investigating a vehicle collision on County Road 90 in Springwater Township, west of Barrie, a Huronia West OPP officer was approached by a motorist who said he had been shot at by what he believed to be a person in a passing car.

Peter Leon, with the Barrie police communications department, tells BarrieToday that it was a matter of connecting some dots during the investigation.

“The officer who took the report at the collision on Nov. 21 contacted investigators from the initial Nov. 20 pellet-gun shooting on Cundles Road and it was determined that not only was the second report a false one, but that the person who made that report fit the description of the person who was involved in the initial shooting (on Nov. 20)," Leon said.

The male suspect is now facing several charges related to the Cundles Road incident, as well a charge of public mischief for the false report of being shot at.

"We were also able to connect another man in several similar-style incidents in the region and both individuals are now being dealt with and going through the court system," Leon added.

A 19-year-old Essa Township man has been charged with aggravated assault, pointing a firearm, three counts of possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and five counts of assault with a weapon. These charges relate to several incidents, police say, including the Nov. 20 shooting in Barrie.

A 21-year-old Innisfil man has also been charged with aggravated assault, pointing a firearm, three counts of possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, and five counts of assault with a weapon.

Both men appeared in an Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Wednesday for a bail hearing, which included a publication ban.
