Police arrest three youths in Tottenham gas station armed robbery

TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH - On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded at approximately 7:45 p.m. to a robbery at the Esso Service Station in Tottenham.

Two male suspects entered the Esso Service Station on Queen Street in Tottenham, with their faces covered by balaclavas. They approached the store clerk and demanded money while brandishing a knife.

The clerk complied and the suspects received an undetermined amount of cash and then left the scene in a small passenger vehicle. The employee inside the store was not injured.

Officers quickly located and stopped the suspect vehicle nearby. Three suspects exited the vehicle in an attempt to flee from police, two of the suspects were taken into police custody, while the third suspect fled the area on foot.

Central Region Canine Unit was utilized, along with Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and they located the third suspect shortly after.

The three accused persons are youths from the Greater Toronto Area. They have been arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery x 2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x 2
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Fail to Comply with Court Orders

They are currently being held for a bail hearing.
