Students creating Valentine's Day cards for local seniors

Cards and flowers will be delivered to seniors on Valentine's Day as part of Caring with Cards and Carnations campaign

The Caring with Cards and Carnations campaign is back for another year to warm the hearts of seniors on Valentine’s Day.

Over 1,000 cards created by local elementary school students will be delivered to seniors in Bradford and Innisfil on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023. High school students, our auxiliary officers and community volunteers will be assisting with the distribution. Once again, Linda’s Floral Design in Bradford is generously donating fragrant red and pink carnations. Some students in Innisfil are making flowers to hand out to ensure as many seniors as possible feel the love of their communities on Valentine’s Day.

“I love how it connects students with seniors,” said Special Const. Elisabeth Aschwanden, who started the heartwarming initiative four years ago. “It’s a small gesture but it means so much to everyone involved. When people hear how the campaign helps put a smile on someone’s face, they’re ready to help.”

This year the card campaign will include Lakeside Retirement Residence as well as some residents at Sandycove Acres in Innisfil. In Bradford, The Elden of Bradford, Holland Gardens Retirement Residence, LeBlanc Rest Home, and Bradford Valley Care Community will all receive cards. The carnations will be delivered with a card to individual seniors at their private residence.

We would like to acknowledge the numerous community partners and volunteers assisting with the campaign. Special shout-out to the talented artists from junior kindergarten to Grade 8 who are using their creativity and caring for such a great cause.
