Suspects facing multiple charges after theft from vehicle

TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS – On Sunday, May 24, 2020, at approximately 8:50 a.m., members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft from a motor vehicle on Potter Crescent in New Tecumseth.  

The owner reported that a wallet had been stolen from their vehicle sometime overnight. The wallet contained various personal items, including debit and credit cards. Police commenced an investigation and established that the bank cards were used within the New Tecumseth and Barrie areas.  

On June 9, the Nottawasaga OPP requested the public's assistance in identifying two suspects sought in a theft and fraud investigation in Tottenham, New Tecumseth.  

As a result of this investigation, two persons have been arrested and charged:  

Kevin Carrier, 29-years-old, of Mono, has been charged with:  

  • Theft under $5000 from a motor vehicle, contrary to s.334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) - five counts; 
  • Use of Credit Card, contrary to s. 342(1)(c) CC - three counts; and  
  • Trespassing at Night, contrary to s.177 CC - four counts.  

Cody Crawford, 27-years-old, of Orangeville, has been charged with: 

  • Theft under $5000 from a motor vehicle, contrary to s.334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) - five counts; 
  • Use of Credit Card, contrary to s. 342(1)(c) CC - three counts;  
  • Trespassing at Night, contrary to s.177 CC - four counts; and  
  • Fail to Appear, contrary to s.145(5) CC.  

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on September 3, 2020.
