Theft from vehicle leads to fraudulent bank card use

Police ask for help to identify to suspects

TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS, ON - The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently seeking the public's assistance in identifying two suspects sought in a theft and fraud investigation in Tottenham, New Tecumseth.

On Sunday, May 24, 2020, at approximately 8:50 a.m., Nottawasaga OPP officers responded to a theft from a motor vehicle on Potter Crescent. The owner reported that a wallet was stolen from the vehicle sometime overnight. The wallet contained various personal items, including debit and credit cards.

Police commenced an investigation and as a result, have established that the bank cards were used within the New Tecumseth and Barrie areas.

Suspect #1 is described as a white male, approximately 25-35 years of age, thin build, thin face with sunken cheeks, dark hair, wearing a black hoodie with hood up and a blue shirt underneath, possible black and white baseball cap and black shoes.

Suspect #2 is described as a white male, approximately 25-35 years of age, medium build, fair skin, possibly a blonde/red goatee and scar/marks on the left and right cheek, wearing a grey zip-up hoodie with lighter coloured grey material on the interior of the hood, light grey shirt underneath, black shorts with a red square on the bottom and a white mark near the pocket, a black baseball cap with a circular white emblem on the front and a sticker on the brim and black shoes.

The Nottawasaga OPP is asking residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious people, vehicles or activities to police. Police would like residents to check their security cameras or dash cams for video footage.  Nottawasaga OPP reminds residents to:

  • Always keep your vehicle locked;
  • Do not leave valuables in your vehicle;
  • If you absolutely must leave valuables in your vehicle, do not leave them in plain sight;
  • Ensure all windows/sunroofs are completely closed;
  • Don't leave your vehicle running or unattended; and
  • Don't keep personal documents, such as vehicle ownership, insurance slips, credit card invoices, or other documents containing personal information, in your vehicles.
