INNISFIL - On the 27th of May 2023 shortly after 3:30 a.m., South Simcoe Police received a report of the sound of glass breaking the area of Johnny Burger, followed by a description of a suspect vehicle departing the scene. Officers responding to the call discovered the suspect vehicle on Innisfil Beach Road.
Officers conducted a traffic stop which resulted in two male parties being arrested in connection with the commercial break and enter. In addition, officers located tools consistent with break and enter instruments inside the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation two Newmarket men, 33-year-old James Hastings and 37-year-old Tyler Smith, were charged with four offences each:
• Break, enter - to business, CC 348 (1)(a)(e)
• Possession of break-in instrument, CC 351 (1) (a)
• Possession of property obtained by crime, CC 354(1)(a)
• Mischief, CC 430 (1) (a)
The successful outcome of this call is great example of alert citizens contributing to community safety by assisting police. The South Simcoe Police encourage residents and visitors to call 911 if you see or hear a crime in progress and do not attempt to engage the suspects for your own personal safety. If you can, from a place of safety relay information that can assist responding officers to the area of concern and the identifying information related to the suspects description and any vehicles in use.
